We test what happened against the record, and dissect it back to front.
One specialism, and four practices that feed it.
Grants, funds, tax reliefs and support schemes that work through firms. Many evaluations of them lean on surveys of the firms that were helped. We add what surveys can't show: how those firms actually performed in their filed accounts, set against matched firms that weren't helped.
Market studies and recurring intelligence on sectors and supply chains, including critical minerals, energy, food commodities, technology and financial markets.
Value-for-money assessment, appraisal support, and the financial health of firms and institutions, read from their own filings over time.
Independent testing of what a technology can deliver, against engineering limits and published evidence, for innovation funders and investment programmes.
Horizon scanning and briefings on the macro-economic and geopolitical forces acting on a policy area or sector.
Every report comes with a plain-English summary of two pages or less and, on request, a short film or audio briefing for ministers, boards and the public.
What a buyer gets from us, and how to check it.
We carry out impact, process and value-for-money evaluations.
Judge us by our work. Our first public study is underway.
Do grant-backed firms grow faster than similar firms that weren't funded?
We are comparing firms that received Innovate UK grants with closely matched firms that didn't, using each company's own filed accounts over time. It follows the Magenta Book's standards for impact evaluation.
From framing the questions to gathering, breaking down and testing the data, through to the findings, our work is carried out with high-end analytical software, including AI models, to cover more evidence, faster and more thoroughly.
Its use follows the Magenta Book's guidance on responsible AI. Each report sets out the tools used, and we answer any buyer's questions about them in full.
